Frequently Asked Questions

What is this?

Breakout is a live escape room game located in Liverpool. You are locked in a room with friends, family or work colleagues for an hour and have to solve a series of puzzles and mysteries to escape. You will have to search high and low for clues and work together if you want to escape. You have 60 minutes to escape by using only your brain, there are no physical activities or challenges involved in the game.

Will I enjoy this?

Yes.

It is a unique experience and one that will stay with you for a long time. Each room is carefully designed to ensure maximum entertainment value. If you are looking for a fun group activity or family day out that is slightly different this is the activity for you.

What TV show or Film is this similar to?

It is a mixture of the following: The Crystal Maze, The Cube (TV show ITV), Cube (film series), Saw series, Prison Break, Fort Boyard, The Mole, The Amazing Race, The Great Escape and Nightmare.

How hard is the game?

Common sense and thinking out side the box goes a lot further than intelligence. You do not need any special ‘skills’ to get out of the room, a very basic level of English and numbers will be enough. Each room has a difficulty rating out of 5. Could we tell you more? Yes, but we wouldn’t want to spoil the experience.

Who normally plays this?

A complete mixture of personality, ages, genders and nationalities play live escape games. Teams can be made up of friends, family, work colleagues, students, tourists and many others. It is a great team and corporate building exercise or a fantastic experience to celebrate a special occasion.

Do you accommodate special occasions?

Yes we do. All are welcome at Breakout Liverpool be it birthdays, anniversaries, hen or stag dos, engagement parties, leaving events and everything else under the sun. We've even had proposals in our rooms!

Do you offer any Student Discounts?

Yes!

We now offer a Student Discount Day every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday! Students can book for 2 players, then bring up to 3 extra student players for free. This potentially works out at just £10 per person!

This offer is only active on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, every member of the group must be over 16 and have valid Student Identification, and the maximum number of players per booking is 5.

What should I wear?

Wear whatever you want. We wouldn’t recommend heels, mankinis, Darth Vader fancy dress or full traditional wedding wear but anything can be worn.

Will I get scared and am I safe?

Yes you are completely safe. There is no fear aspect within any of the rooms. If you want to leave the room at any point you can. All rooms are monitored by staff at all times.

Which room should I play?

Our advice would be to go the room page which is located here and choose your decision based on the one you like the sound of the most. Of course after you have tried one room you will be hooked and want to try all the others.

What is the recommended number of players per team?

Our rooms are designed for a maximum of 5 people. 2 people is the minimum required. 3-4 people however is the ideal amount of players.

Accessibility and special requirements

Unfortunately, Breakout Liverpool is not wheelchair accessible. There are 13 steps into the main part of the centre and the door to enter is 66cm wide.
We are happy to offer assistance to anyone who would like it when entering the centre.
Some of our games are in the upstairs half of the centre which require climbing 39 total steps; these games are: Vacancy, The Detective Offices, Outbreak, Spellbound, Supernova, Warped, and The Haunting.

Our rooms can be played by those who are deaf or hard of hearing. We provide clues through a TV screen which plays a sound when a clue appears, the volume of which can be adjusted.
We can also provide written gameplay, story, and health and safety information prior to the game.

Our rooms can be played by those who have partial sight and/or those who are colourblind. Many of our rooms have 1 or more puzzles that involve colour as a key aspect, but we are happy to provide additional assistance or puzzle skips to players upon request. Supernova doesn't have any colour based puzzles.
Some of our rooms are played in low light. We are happy for players to use their own torches (from phones etc.) or we can provide them to increase visibility.
We would not recommend our rooms to those who are legally or totally blind, unless playing with team members who can assist them.

What ages can play?

We would advise only children from 10 upwards play due to the complexity of the puzzles. If the members of the party are under 16 then they must be accompanied by 1 adult per room of children. Under 7s go free!

I’m claustrophobic, can I play?

Yes you can.

The rooms are all of a reasonable size and you will not find yourself in an enclosed space at any point. You can leave the room at any point if you so wish. However the rooms are situated in the basement. If you have any futher queries please contact us on hello@breakoutliverpool.com

How much does it cost?

The price is dependent on the number of people who are taking part in the game. The more people who take part in the game then the cheaper the game becomes.

It is also cheaper to play the game during our Off Peak times which are from Monday to before 5pm on Friday. The best thing you can do is go to the booking section here and select the room, time slot and number of people in your team to see the total price.

Anyone Under 7 plays for free, but still counts towards the number of players in the room.

When can I play it / what are your opening hours?

We are open 10.00am - 10.00pm, 7 days a week.

How do I get there / Can I park near by / What are the nearest public transport links?
